A cat named Mirage survived a fall in the ravine where her owner couple was killed. The incident occurred when a pair of parents and their 12-year-old daughter, Mirage, were caught in a rockslide during a visit to the famous Mirror Lake overlook in the Brundage Basin National Park in Utah. The parents, Matthew Nannen (45) and Bailee Crane (58), were killed in the collapse.

Utah County Sheriff's Department identified the couple as being killed between Monday and Tuesday night. This rare event in western U.S. national parks has been widely covered by local media.

The parents' death was confirmed Wednesday morning after a thorough search of the ravine, which is 115 meters deep. The couple's body was found near Mirror Lake, where they had been hiking on a popular trail.

Utah State Park rangers are investigating the cause of death and have not yet released details about how the parents died. Their death appears to be accidental, but authorities will continue their investigation.

Adequate emergency response was in place when the parents were found, but unfortunately, they could not be revived at the scene. The couple's car was found nearby and recovered by park rangers early Thursday morning.

Rescue workers quickly retrieved the cat named Mirage from the ravine and transported her to a local animal care facility for treatment. The cat suffered multiple injuries but has since been stabilized under examination by wildlife rescue personnel.

Mirage, who was found to have minor internal injuries consistent with prior falls, is expected to make a full recovery. Tests on her blood work showed no signs of abnormalities, though further tests are pending to determine if she sustained any hidden injuries.
