Australia commemorates 110th anniversary of World War I

As Australia marks the centennial of World War I, cities across the country have come together to honor those who served in both peace and war. This year's commemoration coincides with the 110th anniversary of the official arrival of British forces in Australia.

Sydney's remembrance activities

Sydney's Cenotaph has been adorned with wreaths, while English and Māori language hymns have been sung to honor soldiers from New Zealand and Australia. The city's War Memorial also features a display of wreaths.

Brisbane's Remembrance actions

Shrine of Remembrance in Brisbane held a sunrise service, while memorials were held in Melbourne and Canberra as well. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed Anzacs during these events.

Melbourne and Canberra's remembrance activities

The centennial day began with sunrise services at the War Memorial in Melbourne, followed by a march and other commemorative events.现役领导人Anthony Albanese和反对党领袖Peter Dutton也将在当天暂停竞选活动,前往纪念服务参加。Dutton将前往北布里斯班的Pine Rivers Anzac Day Service,并在RSL纪念公园 laid wreath。

Australia's centennial commemoration

The Melbourne War Memorial, which was upgraded from a war memorial to a World War I centennial war memorial in 2016, held its first public event since its upgrade on the day of this centennial celebration. The directors described it as a 'moment of great pride' for Australia.
