The closure of State Highway 1 North of Tokoroa is due to a severe crash involving one seriously injured person.
Update: Police have stated that the driver of a heavy commercial vehicle sustained severe injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.
The crash occurred near SH1 and Tamatea Rd intersection, approximately 9:50 am. The Serious Crash Unit has been advised, and diversions are in place at Rollett Rd and Wiltsdown Rd.
Motorists are urged to follow traffic management instructions or delay travel due to the closure. A spokesperson stated:
"We regret any inconvenience caused, but the safety of all road users must take priority."
The incident has raised concerns among road safety experts about the need for improved infrastructure and driver training programs in high-risk areas.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport stated:
