Pope Francis's Simple Life and Bali Funeral: The Legacy of the First Latin American Pope

On Bali's圣玛利大教堂, Pope Francis's peaceful passing became a global focus. As the first pope from Latin America, he lived a life known for its simplicity, living out his faith through everyday actions.

In 1981, at just 20 years old, Jorge Bergoglio, then a young priest, performed his first Mass as a priest in Bali's圣玛利大教堂. This moment marked not only the beginning of his career but also became a significant point of global attention.

Pope Francis was elected to the papacy in 2013. In the years that followed, he lived a life of humility and dedication in Bali. He often dined with local residents at the church's kitchen on Sundays, even occasionally chatting with the chef about his favorite recipes.

Despite physical challenges—he limped due to one knee injury—he remained true to his role as a humble pope. His daily commute was simple: he took the bus or subway to reach the nearby圣约翰大教堂.

Pope Francis's impact on Bali extended far beyond his papacy. Before becoming pope, Bali was known as one of the world's largest slums. Yet, this simple-minded pope brought about significant change. He wrote his name on a wall at the圣约翰大教堂: "This is my root, my home."

At the funeral in Bali, people honored Pope Francis with庄重的 gestures. Starting at 5 a.m., many waited outside theconfessional to seek spiritual guidance. At noon, the church's square was filled with flowers and white roses, symbolizing their respect for him.

Pope Francis's legacy lies not only in his stature and attire but also in his profound impact on ordinary people. He demonstrated that in Latin America, the Church must respect local cultures, remain humble, and continue to care for the poorest among us.

Bali's sky remains filled with memories of this pope, whose story will be told for generations to come.
