Manhunt Underway for Shooter Who Killed Prominent Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

A nationwide manhunt is ongoing for the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk, a well-known United States conservative political activist and a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, during an event at Utah Valley University. Federal and state officials have confirmed that they have tracked the shooter's movements and are working closely with the FBI to identify the suspect.

The FBI's Salt Lake City field office has released images of a person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting. The agency is urging the public to provide any information that could help identify the individual. Tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or visiting the FBI's online tips page. On Thursday morning (local time), the FBI's Salt Lake City X account posted two photos of the suspect, stating that they are 'asking for the public's help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.'

Robert Bohls, special agent in charge of the FBI's Salt Lake City field office, confirmed that officials believe they have recovered the firearm used in the shooting. The weapon, a 'high-powered, bolt action rifle,' was found in a wooded area where the shooter had fled. The FBI will now conduct a detailed analysis of the weapon. In addition to the rifle, authorities have also collected a footwear impression, a palm print, and forearm imprints, which will be analyzed as part of the investigation.

Bohls also noted that 'tips are being fully investigated,' and that as of the morning of the press conference, more than 130 tips had been received. 'We are working through some technologies and some ways to identify this individual,' said Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, adding that authorities have obtained 'good video' of the suspect, though they have not yet released the footage.

The event at Utah Valley University was Kirk's first stop on his 'The American Comeback Tour ft. Kirk' series of live events across college campuses. The event, held in Orem, Utah, included a 'Prove Me Wrong Table,' a feature where Kirk would challenge opponents to public debates. This was a hallmark of his outreach strategy, aimed at engaging young voters and promoting conservative values on campuses and in churches.

Kirk, who co-founded the conservative non-profit Turning Point USA at the age of 18, was a key figure in mobilizing support for Trump during the 2024 election cycle. His death has sparked widespread condemnation from both major political parties. Former President Trump described the incident as a 'dark moment for America' and blamed 'radical left' rhetoric for inciting political violence.

The incident has reignited discussions about campus safety and the potential for violence at political events. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
