Israel's Military Intensifies Bombing in Gaza City as Death Toll Rises

Israel's military launched a heavy assault on Gaza City on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of 123 people within the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza health ministry. This marked the deadliest 24-hour period in a week, further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis in the region, which has been under the shadow of a near-two-year-long war.


The attack, which targeted areas such as Zeitoun and Shejaia, has raised serious concerns about the potential for a broader Israeli offensive to take control of the city, which officials have suggested could be initiated as early as October. The destruction has been extensive, with homes in the eastern areas of Gaza City being reduced to rubble by Israeli planes and tanks.


Al-Ahli hospital reported 12 deaths from an airstrike on a home in Zeitoun, while tanks also destroyed several houses in the east of Khan Younis. In addition, Israeli gunfire claimed the lives of nine aid-seekers in two separate incidents, underscoring the growing risks faced by civilians in the region.


The Gaza health ministry has also reported that eight additional individuals, including three children, died of starvation and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of such deaths to 235 since the war began — including 106 children. Israel has refuted these figures, accusing Hamas of diverting aid and misusing humanitarian resources.
