U.S. Ambassador Launches Rarely Intense Criticism at UK Prime Minister

In a rare and sharply worded statement, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has launched a fierce critique of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, following Starmer's call for Israel to reconsider its plan for Gaza. The remarks, posted on the social media platform X, have sparked widespread discussion and raised questions about the diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and the UK over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Huckabee's comments came in response to a statement by Starmer, who criticized Israel’s announced plan to “defeat” Hamas in Gaza and urged the Israeli government to “immediately reconsider” its approach. The plan, approved by Israel’s security cabinet on the night of August 8, aims to “defeat” Hamas and “control” Gaza City.

In his post, Huckabee questioned Starmer’s stance, writing: “So, Israel should surrender to Hamas and give them food, while the Israeli hostages are starving?” He further accused Starmer of being complicit in the actions of Nazi Germany during World War II, asking, “Have you heard of Dresden, Prime Minister? You didn’t drop food then. If you had been the Prime Minister back then, Britain might now be speaking German!”

Starmer’s remarks were made in the context of growing international concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict in Gaza. He argued that Israel’s current plan would not lead to an end of the conflict or the release of hostages, but instead would result in more civilian casualties.

The U.S. has long been a strong ally of Israel, but recent statements from Western leaders have highlighted growing divisions over the approach taken by Israel in the Middle East. While the U.S. has consistently supported Israel’s right to self-defense, it has also called for a reduction in civilian casualties and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

This exchange between Huckabee and Starmer underscores the complex and often contentious nature of international diplomacy, particularly in the context of a conflict that has drawn global attention and concern. As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, the role of foreign leaders and their influence on the outcome of the conflict remains a critical issue for the international community.
