World's Most Desired City for Long-Term Residence: Taipei Beats Singapore to Take the Crown
(Central News Agency, Taipei, 8th Comprehensive Foreign Media Report) Global design and architecture company Gensler recently released the '2025 City Pulse: The Magnetic City' survey report, in which Taipei defeated international cities such as Singapore, Sydney, and Berlin, ranking first as the 'World's Most Desired City for Long-Term Residence.'
Gensler's global survey '2025 City Pulse: The Magnetic City' (City Pulse 2025: The Magnetic City) gathered opinions from 33,000 residents across 65 cities worldwide, exploring the reasons and locations people choose to live.
The survey compiled the proportion of residents who answered 'unlikely' to move, and the results showed the top 10 international cities where people most want to live long-term are Taipei (64%), Ho Chi Minh City (61%), Singapore (59%), Sydney (58%), Berlin (51%), Monterrey (50%), Munich (49%), Sao Paulo (49%), Vancouver (49%), and Seoul (47%).
According to the Gensler survey, among 152 factors, the top five indicators influencing whether people choose to settle long-term in a city are 'I do not feel bored in this city,' 'I feel like home in this city,' 'I am proud of this city,' 'This city is becoming more suitable for elderly care,' and 'My sense of belonging to the city increases over time.'
The top 10 most desired cities for long-term residence in the United States are Minneapolis (53%), San Antonio (53%), San Diego (50%), Raleigh (49%), Chicago (47%), Tampa (47%), Portland (47%), Phoenix (46%), San Francisco (46%), and Austin (46%).
Additionally, in this report's evaluation categories such as economic strength, safety and stability, urban vitality, climate adaptability, improving quality of life, level of community investment, homeless placement, and crime reduction, Taipei scored 73%, 78%, 76%, 69%, 71%, 70%, 60%, and 71% respectively, all of which are higher than the global average.
