The National Space Organization (TASA) held a tender briefing session for the 'Communications Satellite Manufacturing Industrialization Platform' on August 7. The submission deadline is expected to be August 27, with the awarding of the contract in September. In the first phase, four manufacturers will be selected to design, and then two of them will be chosen to construct four communications satellites. The plan is to launch them in 2029, with one year of in-orbit warranty and a three-year satellite mission. This briefing session attracted 45 manufacturers to participate, including the 'Five Giants' of the electronics industry: Quanta Computer, Wistron, Pegatron, Compal, and Inventec. TASA stated that this plan aims to cultivate the satellite system integration capabilities of the Taiwanese industry, link upstream and downstream, deepen corporate competitiveness, and assist Taiwanese manufacturers in conducting in-orbit verification. Wu Tsung-hsin, Director of TASA, pointed out that the satellite industry is divided into four blocks, and Taiwan's main strength lies in ground equipment. Since last year, satellite manufacturing has shown exponential growth, indicating that Taiwanese manufacturers have started to accept OEM orders from international satellite companies.廖荣皇, Director of the Industry Promotion Division at TASA, stated that the Communications Satellite Manufacturing Industrialization Platform not only meets national needs but also helps Taiwanese manufacturers build capabilities, and in the future, they can conduct space environment testing, satellite system integration consulting, and satellite control services.
