The Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD (BYD) may enter the Taiwan market through the Taikoo Group as an agent, using the "DENZA" brand. The Mainland Affairs Council stated that national security and cybersecurity must be considered, and for various mainland brand vehicles planning to enter Taiwan, there needs to be a high level of review.

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) held a regular press conference in the afternoon of the 7th, hosted by Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson Liang Wenjie. He made the above statement during the meeting. Regarding BYD's agents, Taikoo Group, hosting a banquet for high-level officials in the Legislative Yuan, Liang Wenjie said that there is currently no record of Taikoo Group applying to invite mainland Chinese business people to come to Taiwan. If it is true that BYD representatives come to Taiwan, the individuals may not have mainland Chinese nationality. If this is the case, they do not need to be reviewed and approved to come to Taiwan.

Regarding the view on mainland electric vehicles entering the Taiwan market, Liang Wenjie responded that mainland electric vehicles are subsidized heavily by the government, leading to overproduction, and their prices can be very low, allowing them to sell abroad at low prices. He said that it must be considered that mainland electric vehicles involve cybersecurity issues. It is uncertain where the data collected by these electric vehicles on the road, after collecting a lot of user information, is stored and how it is used. These are issues that must be considered.

Liang Wenjie emphasized that he agrees with the position of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The government, based on considerations of national security, vehicle safety, information security, and industry development, must give a high level of review for mainland brand vehicles of various types attempting to enter the Taiwan market through various means.
