In the afternoon of the 6th, a mountain wall collapse occurred on the Miaoli 62-1 line road heading towards Qing'an Elementary School in Taian Township, Miaoli County. A red sedan passing by was hit by a huge boulder, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of the driver and passenger inside the vehicle.

According to the fifth rescue and medical team of the Miaoli County Fire Department, they received a report at 3:19 PM. On-site, the red sedan was severely crushed and buried by a large rock, with two people inside unconscious. After rescue efforts by the firefighters, a 59-year-old man in the driver's seat managed to escape first, but he was already in OHCA (cardiopulmonary function stopped before arriving at the hospital). Despite being sent to Dashun Hospital for emergency treatment, he was declared dead. The other male passenger in the front passenger seat was found with a clearly visible head injury and was pronounced dead.

The exact identities of the two individuals are yet to be clarified by the police.

The Ta湖 District Police Station of the Miaoli County Police Department stated that officers rushed to the scene, first closed the road and set up barriers and traffic cones to control vehicle and pedestrian access. They also notified the township government's construction department to dispatch contractors to clear the rocks. Subsequently, they will report the incident to the criminal investigation unit for an autopsy.

On-site, rocks of various sizes, at least several tons, had fallen from the mountain wall, creating a shocking scene.

Taian Township Mayor Chen Jiji stated that in recent months, heavy rain had been continuously falling for nearly a month in the mountainous area. Unexpectedly, only two days ago, the weather had just cleared up, and a collapse and falling rocks crushed the vehicle, causing a tragic death.

The Miaoli County Government's Transportation and Public Works Department pointed out that due to continuous rainfall, the mountain wall slope has become saturated with water, making the soil and rocks unstable. However, landslides and falling rocks have usually occurred on the main road of Miaoli 62 line leading to the Taian hot spring area. Today's incident occurred on the less frequently affected Miaoli 62-1 line. They urge the public to be cautious when entering and exiting mountain roads.
