A fatal car accident occurred at Ruins Square in Tsuen Wan on Tuesday (5th), where an 80-year-old taxi driver surnamed Wong was driving a city taxi and is suspected to have swerved into the pedestrian area at the hotel's underground entrance, colliding with a 35-year-old Filipino male tourist who was passing by. Mr. Wong reported chest pain and injuries to his head and hands, and was conscious when he was sent to仁濟 Hospital for treatment. He was arrested on suspicion of the offense of 'dangerous driving causing death'.
After the police investigation, Mr. Wong was released on bail on Wednesday (6th) and is required to report to the police in the latter half of this month.
The incident occurred at 1:52 PM on Tuesday (5th) at the underground entrance of Ruins Hotel, No. 8 Yang Wu Road. A taxi is suspected to have swerved, and the 35-year-old Filipino male victim was seriously injured and fell into a coma. He was sent to Margaret Hospital for rescue but later died.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong stated that they are assisting the victim's family and expect the family to arrive in Hong Kong to arrange the transportation of the body. Since the Hong Kong police are investigating the case, the consulate general will work closely with the Hong Kong police.
