The Hong Kong delegation of National People's Congress representatives visited Urumqi in Xinjiang on yesterday (4th) for an eight-day inspection trip. This visit was repeatedly postponed due to the pandemic, but the inspection has finally taken place. One of the Hong Kong representatives, Legislative Council member and Election Committee member Chen Manqi, shared on her social media platform today (5th) that the inspection team visited the Urumqi International Land Port, learned about its construction and operation, and understood its role in the development of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The Urumqi International Land Port is a place based on railways, integrating multimodal transport, international logistics, trade, and bonded functions. It is also the central hub for the China-Europe freight trains (Urumqi) and is regarded as an important international logistics hub and a gateway to the outside world in western China. Chen Manqi stated that Urumqi is an important transportation hub for China's access to Central Asia, and hopes that Hong Kong and Xinjiang can increase international trade cooperation and further develop the international professional and legal service markets in Southeast Asia and Central Asia.
