A fatal car accident occurred in Tsuen Wan today (5th). At 1:52 PM, near the entrance of the Riverside Hotel at No. 8, Yang Wu Road, a taxi is suspected to have lost control and veered onto the pedestrian path. A 35-year-old Filipino male tourist was just dragging his suitcase out of the door when he was struck by the taxi, which hit him like a 'shell' at high speed, causing severe injuries to both legs. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but later confirmed deceased.
It is understood that the involved taxi driver, surnamed Wong, is already 80 years old. He claimed that before the incident, when he was attempting to turn into the taxi stand, he felt dizzy and lost control. After the accident, the taxi driver suffered chest pain, head, and hand injuries and was sent to仁濟 Hospital for treatment. He is suspected of dangerous driving causing death and has been arrested by the police. The case is now being investigated by the first team of the Traffic Accident Special Investigation Unit, South District, New Territories. The police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to contact the investigators by calling 3661 1346.

Online videos circulating show the moment of the accident. It can be seen that the deceased male was dragging his suitcase out of the hotel entrance, apparently using his phone and walking along the pedestrian path. During this time, the taxi hit him like a 'shell' at high speed, with the front of the taxi forcefully colliding with the deceased. The deceased was temporarily trapped between the column and the front of the taxi. Afterward, the taxi reversed, and the deceased fell to the ground seriously injured. At the end of the video, it can be seen that he briefly attempted to sit up.
Sources said the deceased was a 35-year-old Filipino man who had come to Hong Kong with several friends for a trip. Today, he was checking out and preparing to leave Hong Kong when he was severely injured and killed by the taxi in the ground floor lobby area of the hotel.
