A serious car accident occurred at the ground floor entrance of the Como Hotel at No. 8 Yang Wu Road, Tsuen Wan today (5th) at 1:52 p.m., a taxi is suspected to have lost control, colliding with a 35-year-old Filipino man, causing him severe injuries, leading to him falling into a coma and later dying in the hospital. According to on-site information, the deceased was traveling with several friends, and was preparing to check out and leave Hong Kong at the time, when he was hit by a taxi at high speed in the passenger drop-off area of the hotel lobby.
Online circulating car camera footage shows the male victim dragging a suitcase out of the hotel entrance, apparently using a phone, walking along the pedestrian path, when the taxi rushed out of the lane at high speed, and the front of the taxi forcefully collided with the victim. The victim was temporarily stuck between the column and the front of the taxi, after which the taxi reversed, causing the victim to suffer serious injuries and fall to the ground; at the end of the video, he can be seen attempting to sit up.
The taxi driver is an 80-year-old man surnamed Wong, who claimed he was dizzy and lost control, and is suspected of dangerous driving causing death and has been arrested. He is currently being detained for investigation. He sustained minor injuries and has been hospitalized for treatment. The police are appealing to anyone who has information to contact the investigators by calling 3661 1346.
The case is being handled by the Special Investigation Unit of the Traffic Department of the New Territories South Division. At the scene, the front of the taxi was severely dented, the building's wall was damaged, multiple tiles were stripped off, and paramedics were on site with red cloth to assist in the rescue.
