(CNA reporter Chao Ching-yu, Taipei, August 5) Amsterdam Pride (Amsterdam Pride) concluded on August 2, and drag queen Nymphia Wind (Nymphia Wind) attended the film closing symposium of the pride festival and led the Asian Pride Boat with a surprise bouquet design, showcasing Taiwan's diverse cultural values.
The Ministry of Culture announced in a press release today that, under the joint invitation of the Taiwan Cultural Center in France, the Taiwanese Representative Office in the Netherlands, and the Amsterdam Asian Pride Association (Asian Pride), Nymphia Wind appeared on the 'We Do' themed Asian Pride Boat (Asian Pride Boat) in a design symbolizing a wedding bouquet. Heart-shaped balloons with the text 'Marriage Equality, Taiwan First in Asia' were hung on the side of the boat, drawing cheers from the on-site audience.
Nymphia Wind led a team on the boat wearing white and gold costumes symbolizing celebration, heading toward the blue sky and sunlight amid the rain. People along the riverbanks cheered enthusiastically, and flash photography continued nonstop. The event was live-streamed by the Dutch state television station AVROTROS.
Nymphia Wind also participated in the post-screening symposium of the Asian Pride Cinema, where the films 'Beautiful Boys' directed by Chen Chun-chih and 'Rachel' directed by Chen Kun-ho were screened. Nymphia Wind interacted humorously with fans from around the world during the symposium and stated that her continued motivation for drag performances is to keep letting the 'world see Taiwan'.
The Amsterdam Asian Pride Association (Asian Pride) said it was honored to invite Nymphia Wind, the special envoy from Taiwan, to attend the event. Taiwan is the first country in Asia to achieve marriage equality, and the association hopes that other countries in Asia can also say 'YES' to marriage equality. Nymphia Wind conveyed this message to the world; the screening of the documentaries highlighted Taiwan's unique culture and its celebration of the freedom of the rainbow community.
