In Sijhih District, New Taipei City, an owner neglected to manage their dog, allowing it to roam on the street. The dog was later killed in a traffic accident. After an investigation by the Animal Protection Bureau, it was determined that both the owner and the driver involved violated relevant provisions of the Animal Protection Law, and both were fined 15,000 NT dollars. The Animal Protection Bureau stated that the owner failed to properly manage the dog, leading to the animal's death, which violated the Animal Protection Law's provision that owners should prevent their dogs from being harassed, abused, or harmed. The driver who caused the accident was found to have negligently run over the animal, resulting in its death, which violated the Animal Protection Law's provision that no one may harass, abuse, or harm animals. The Animal Protection Bureau emphasized that owners must take responsibility for managing their pets, and dogs should be leashed when outside to prevent them from getting lost or entering traffic lanes, thereby ensuring the safety of both dogs and road users.
