Central and Local Governments Cooperate to Jointly Protect Penghu's Marine Resources

Chairperson of the Marine Affairs Council, Guan Bi-ling, said today in Penghu that the livelihood of Penghu residents is closely related to the ocean, and the ocean's contribution is profound and cannot be overlooked. The central and local governments are working together to demonstrate their determination to jointly protect marine resources. Guan Bi-ling arrived in Penghu today and met with County Magistrate Chen Guang-fu in the afternoon. They discussed issues such as marine conservation, marine environmental protection, maritime safety, and ecological sustainability, showcasing the determination of the central and local governments to cooperate and jointly protect marine resources. Chen Guang-fu said that Penghu is surrounded by the sea on all sides and has unique marine resources. The total area of the Taiwan Bank is approximately 8,800 square kilometers. The ocean is not only the living space of Penghu residents but also key to developing tourism and sustainable operations. He thanked the Marine Affairs Council for its long-term support for Penghu, including water quality monitoring, turtle conservation, habitat and coral restoration, seagrass planting, and marine education, which has substantially improved Penghu's marine governance capabilities. Guan Bi-ling pointed out that the ocean's contribution is profound and cannot be overlooked, and the livelihood of Penghu residents is closely related to the ocean. She commended Penghu's efforts and achievements in beach cleaning, marine waste cleanup, and conservation work. However, in response to the implementation of the Fiscal Division Act next year, central government budgets will be adjusted. She hopes local governments will continue to increase their investment in marine affairs, and the central government will continue to provide necessary assistance and resources to jointly strive for the goal of sustainable ocean management.
