The referendum on restarting Nuclear Power Plant Three will be held on August 23. On August 5, the Earth Citizen Foundation held a public forum at the Hengchun Cultural Center, emphasizing the risks and concerns associated with restarting nuclear power. Most local residents attending the forum opposed the restart of Nuclear Power Plant Three and raised several concerns, including nuclear safety, nuclear waste disposal, consequences of a nuclear disaster, and the impact on the local landscape and environment. Some residents believe that anti-nuclear voices are difficult to convey to Taipei, worrying that local opinions will not be heard. Additionally, some residents pointed out that although solar panels have repeatedly faced criticism in the area, the ruling party's response has been ineffective, failing to clearly explain the planning and clarify corruption concerns. The number of participants on the day of the forum was not high, and some anti-nuclear residents were worried that their views would not be heard, becoming a focal point of social attention.
