Ministry of Transportation Establishes AI Promotion Committee to Strengthen Digital Transformation in Transportation
To respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology and the increasingly diverse applications in the transportation sector, the Ministry of Transportation held its first meeting of the 'AI Promotion Committee for the Transportation Sector' on August 5, chaired by Minister Chen Shi-kai. The meeting invited heads of various units and affiliated agencies within the Ministry, as well as experts and scholars from the Ministry of Finance and academia. It officially launched a cross-ministerial collaboration platform to comprehensively advance AI application strategies and risk governance in transportation.
Chen Shi-kai pointed out that AI is a crucial factor in promoting digital transformation and innovative services in transportation. It can not only improve service efficiency and convenience for the public but also has the potential to enhance transportation safety, strengthen system resilience, and achieve sustainable development. The establishment of the committee is a concrete action by the Ministry of Transportation to actively respond to the trends of technological development and government policies. In the future, the committee will focus on 'people-centered transportation' as the core, systematically constructing an AI development blueprint and governance framework.
During the meeting, the Department of Transportation Technology and Information explained the committee's seven promotion strategies, including the development of intelligent public services, the construction of automated administrative services, the completion of AI data and models, the enhancement of AI application infrastructure, the creation of equitable digital smart services, the cultivation of diverse AI professional talents, and the improvement of AI legal frameworks and governance mechanisms. In addition, the meeting reported on the progress of adapting regulations for autonomous vehicles by the Public Transportation and Supervision Department, and the Central Weather Bureau shared the application achievements of AI in weather forecasting and disaster response, demonstrating the specific effectiveness of inter-ministerial collaboration.
