China's Shenzhen City experienced intense lightning and heavy rain today, turning streets into rivers with water reaching knee height. The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued the highest-level red warning signal for heavy rain, the first time since the super typhoon Mangkhut in 2018. Dongguan, also located in Guangdong, was also affected by heavy rain, with some areas experiencing torrential rain, with over 400 mm of rainfall in a single day. The average cumulative rainfall in Shenzhen reached 84.0 mm, with the maximum cumulative rainfall recorded at Gangtou Station in Longgang District at 208.3 mm. Photos taken by netizens show that some streets were severely flooded, with even fish being washed onto the shore. The average rainfall in Dongguan was 134.2 mm, with the highest rainfall recorded at Zhangmuto at 431.7 mm. The prolonged heavy rain has caused traffic disruptions in many areas, and the public has expressed dissatisfaction with the warnings issued by the meteorological department. The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory has repeatedly adjusted the warning levels, from red to yellow, and then to orange. The Dongguan Meteorological Observatory predicted that the heavy rain process will continue, with subsequent rainfall weakening slightly but still requiring caution.
