The review of the National Land Use Functional Zone Map for Taichung City is complete, with 14 counties and cities nationwide approved
The National Land Council of the Ministry of the Interior stated today that the National Land Plan Review Committee has completed the review of the draft 'National Land Use Functional Zone Map for Taichung City'. According to statistics, currently, the National Land Use Functional Zone Maps of 14 counties and cities nationwide have been approved, while the maps for Taipei City, New Taipei City, and other 8 counties and cities have not yet been approved. The Legislative Yuan passed the amended National Land Plan Act in late last year, extending the timeline for the National Land Use Functional Zone Map by six years. The National Land Council of the Ministry of the Interior stated that the adjustments to the first and second categories of the Agricultural Development Zone proposed by the city government did not conform to the general procedures for designation, and the committee has decided to ask the city government to follow the designation conditions outlined in the various levels of the National Land Plan. Civil society groups such as the Supervisory Coalition for Government Oversight have questioned the Taichung City Government for not designating the Daping Security Forest as part of the National Protection Zone and for abandoning nearly 6,400 hectares of high-quality farmland, allowing farmland to be lost in large quantities. The National Land Council stated that the central government will review the rationality of the designated areas according to the principles of the National Land Plan Review at each stage and ask the Taichung City Government to enhance communication with the public to gain social consensus.
