A senior official said the US is exploring ways to equip chips with better tracking capabilities, highlighting Washington's efforts to curb the flow of semiconductors produced by companies like Nvidia into China. Bloomberg reported that Washington has long supported collaboration with this industry to monitor the movement of sensitive components, which is part of a broader plan aimed at curbing smuggling and ensuring the maintenance of US technological leadership. Last week, China met with Nvidia representatives to discuss US actions in tracking capabilities and security risks related to its H20 chip. Clayton Christensen, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said discussions are underway regarding possible software or physical changes to the chips themselves to enhance tracking capabilities. He also urged the Asia-Pacific region to adopt US technology, which is another major pillar of the aforementioned AI action plan. The US government is preparing federal financing tools to support the export of AI technology to recognized allies.
