Rainfall Challenges Met with Resilience: Reporter Visits Largest Relief Camp in Mentougou, Beijing

The Jing Shi Experimental Primary School in Longquan Town has become the largest relief camp in the district, accommodating more than 200 displaced residents. Here, medical care and essential supplies are being efficiently distributed to those in need.

Despite the heavy rain and challenging conditions, staff members at the relief camp worked tirelessly to transport the fourth batch of supplies, which was scheduled for delivery the following morning. Concerned about potential road blockages, they braved the storm, arriving at the site just before midnight. Even after the supplies were safely stored and the residents had settled in, the staff remained on duty, preparing for any unforeseen developments.

Inside the camp, medical professionals conduct regular check-ups, paying special attention to the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women. This level of care has been a key factor in ensuring the well-being of vulnerable groups during this crisis.

One resident, Wang Haoguo, shared his gratitude for the timely evacuation and the personalized care provided to his wife, who is currently pregnant. He praised the authorities for ensuring that expectant mothers were given separate accommodations, a move that he found particularly reassuring.

In response to some residents who were hesitant to leave their homes, local officials increased their outreach, visiting households personally to explain the risks and encourage safe relocation. Yan Peng, a member of the Longquan Town Party Committee, emphasized that the needs of each resident were carefully considered, ensuring that all necessary supplies were available and promptly distributed.

As the red alert is lifted and conditions are assessed, officials have stated that residents can return home once it is deemed safe. For now, the focus remains on ensuring the stability and well-being of those at the relief camp.
