Two Chinese Nationals Found Murdered and Dumped in River, Chinese Embassy Demands Justice
In a shocking incident that has drawn international attention, two Chinese citizens were found murdered and their bodies discarded in a river in Cambodia’s Sihanouk Province. The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has issued a strong statement, urging the Cambodian authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in the country.
According to a press release from the Cambodian National Police Criminal Investigation General Department, the two victims—ZHANG RUJU (female, 43 years old) and DONG YUANYUAN (male, 39 years old)—were reported missing on July 18 after staying at a hotel in Sihanouk City. Their bodies were discovered on July 23 in the巴萨 River (Bassac River) in Gotong Village, Kandal Province, and were confirmed to have been murdered and dumped in the water.
Following the case, a joint investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigation General Department, Sihanouk Province Police, and Kandal Province Police. As a result, seven Chinese nationals were arrested on July 31 and August 2. The suspects, all male, range in age from 32 to 48, with one’s age still unknown.
The arrested individuals include: REN JIASHENG (36), JIANG BAO (48), YE YIYONG (age unknown), HUANG YONG (39), XIONG QANG HAI (40), CHAN XING (32), and LAI GUO QIANG (48). They were detained in Sihanouk City and later transferred to the Sihanouk Province Police for further legal proceedings.
On August 4, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia issued a statement expressing concern over the recent murders and calling on the Cambodian authorities to take decisive action. It emphasized the importance of protecting the lives and property of Chinese citizens in the country and demanded that the perpetrators be strictly punished.
The embassy also highlighted that this case follows another incident in Kandal Province, where a Chinese citizen was also the victim of a violent crime. It reiterated its commitment to working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of Chinese nationals in Cambodia.
While the investigation is ongoing, the case has sparked significant concern among the Chinese community in Cambodia and has raised questions about the safety of expatriates in the region. It remains to be seen how the legal process will unfold and what measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the world watches closely, the call for justice echoes louder than ever. The Chinese Embassy’s stance is clear: the perpetrators must face the full force of the law, and the safety of Chinese citizens must be ensured at all costs.
