Severe Weather Warnings: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across Parts of the Country

In these regions, rainfall is expected to range between 130mm and 150mm, with intensities reaching 15-20mm per hour, especially during mid-morning to early afternoon.

Residents in the Nelson-Tasman region have been particularly warned to prepare for the potential of heavy rain, as the area has already experienced two major floods since late last month and is currently in an official recovery period. MetService has urged residents to clear drains and gutters, avoid low-lying areas, and drive cautiously to minimize the risk of flooding.

Strong Wind Watches and Regional Impacts

In addition to the rain warnings, strong wind watches have been issued for several regions, including Northland, Auckland, and Great Barrier Island, which are expected to experience strong winds from Monday evening. These watches carry a moderate chance of being upgraded to warnings. Other regions, such as the Coromandel Peninsula, eastern Waikato, and the Bay of Plenty, will also be under strong wind watches for much of Tuesday, with a moderate to high chance of warnings being issued.
