The body of Arnold Palacios, the 10th Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands, is expected to arrive in the Commonwealth today, marking a solemn moment for the region. Mr. Palacios, 69, passed away in Guam after being medivacced there following a medical incident on Wednesday. According to a statement released by the offices of Governor David M. Apatang and Lieutenant Governor Dennis C. Mendiola, the late governor's body will arrive at the airport at 10:30 a.m. local time. The statement emphasized that the Cabinet members, along with the governor’s first lady, Wella, and their family, will be present to welcome him. Only immediate family members and authorized personnel will be allowed on the tarmac, though the public is invited to gather along the motorcade route.
The motorcade will proceed to the Cabrera Funeral Home, located at the Cabrera Center along Beach Road, Garapan. The route, which begins at the Commuter Terminal and travels along Chalan Tun Herman Pan, Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, and Beach Road, is expected to be a moment of unity and remembrance.
“Your presence would be a meaningful and heartfelt gesture of deep respect and unity during this solemn moment as we pay tribute and join his family in grief and mourn for our late governor Palacios,” the statement concluded.
