Man Charged with Murder in Cold-Case Killing of Hawke's Bay Father Eddie Peters

A 29-year-old man from Hastings has been charged with the murder of Eddie Peters, a father from Hawke's Bay, in a case that has remained unsolved for nearly seven years. Eddie Peters, 45, was brutally beaten and left for dead on the driveway of a home on Diaz Drive in Flaxmere in November 2018. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at Wellington Hospital on November 24 of that year.

Detective Inspector Dave de Lange provided details of the incident, describing how Peters was attacked in the early hours of November 16, 2018. "He was viciously beaten and left for dead," de Lange said. "What happened to Eddie was terrible, and the investigation team has remained focused on establishing exactly what happened, for Eddie's whanau and friends."

The breakthrough in the case came as a result of the support and assistance from the Hastings community, which helped police piece together the tragic events of that night. The arrest of the suspect brings some level of satisfaction, but de Lange urged members of the public to come forward with any additional information that could help close the case completely.

In addition to the murder charge, the 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman have also been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to the murder investigation. The suspect is expected to appear in the Hastings District Court later today, and police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or information that could aid the ongoing investigation.

The case has reignited public interest in cold-case investigations and the role of community involvement in bringing justice for victims. While the charges mark a significant step forward, the community is reminded that there are still unanswered questions surrounding the events of that night. As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on delivering justice for Eddie Peters and his family.
