Tragic Crash in Waiuku Claims Lives of Adult and Two Children

A devastating crash in Waiuku has left a community in shock after three people, including an adult and two children, lost their lives in a sudden accident on Tuesday.

At approximately 3:30 PM on Tuesday, a vehicle veered off Masters Road in the Waiuku area, located on the border of the Auckland region, and crashed into a creek. All three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed the victims were an adult and two children, though details about the identities of the deceased have not yet been released. The incident has left the local community, known for its close-knit connections, deeply affected.

County Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Jared Pirret, praised the quick response of emergency services, who arrived at the scene and worked together to carry out a rescue operation. He acknowledged the professionalism of the teams involved, noting the challenging and confronting nature of the situation.

"The Serious Crash Unit will now conduct a thorough investigation to determine how this tragic incident occurred," said Pirret. "This incident will have a lasting impact on the Waiuku community, and our thoughts are with the families affected."

Franklin Ward Councillor Andy Baker described the area as a tight-knit community where everyone knows each other. He noted that the road where the crash occurred, known locally as the "roller coaster road," is a popular route among residents.

"It’s a rural road that’s long and undulating, and while it may not be more dangerous than other roads in the area, it’s all about how people drive it," Baker said. "The time of day and the weather conditions could have played a role."

Franklin Local Board member Gary Holmes added that the road’s speed limit, which is 100 km/h in some sections, may be a point of concern for local authorities. However, he emphasized that the immediate focus is on supporting the affected families and the community.

Following the crash, Masters Road between Waiuku and Kidd Roads remained closed for a significant time. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the police using the reference number 250715/829 or to report online.

As the community mourns, the tragedy has sparked discussions about road safety and the need for ongoing awareness in rural areas. With the investigation ongoing, the people of Waiuku continue to come together in support of one another during this difficult time.
