All Blacks Coach Ryan Signals Squad Changes Ahead of Final Test Against France
As the All Blacks prepare for their final test against France, head coach Scott Robertson and forwards coach Jason Ryan have hinted at a significant reshuffle in the team lineup. With the series already seeing a high attrition rate, the decision to rotate players could bring a fresh dynamic to the squad.
During a recent training session in Hamilton, Ryan emphasized that the opportunity to give younger or less-experienced players a chance is a key focus. "There's been some older players that haven't had a crack, but they've trained extremely well and done their job setting up the test team that's had the opportunity on Saturday. So I think that gives us an opportunity to have a look at a few and trust that our whole squad of who we pick can do a job," he said.
The potential changes are expected to give the team a very Chiefs-like feel, especially since the game is being played in Hamilton. Players like hooker Brodie McAlister, midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown, and loose forward Luke Jacobson are likely to rotate into the lineup. None of these players have featured in the previous matches, but their inclusion could bring a new energy to the team.
Other players who may see action include Quinn Tupaea, who could make a return, and Damian McKenzie, who is expected to start. Lock Naitoa Ah Kuoi, who was brought in as an emergency replacement during the buildup to the first test, is also in line for a potential test debut after injuries to key players like Scott Barrett and Tupou Vaa'i. Ah Kuoi has been with the squad since then and has shown promise in training.
Meanwhile, winger Sevu Reece is expected to return to the starting lineup after a brief exit due to an HIA. Reece, who is eager to prove himself, said the team is preparing for a tough challenge from France. "We've got an opportunity now to really put a statement that this is our 2025 season and that's how we're going to roll out, All Blacks 2025," he said. "Nothing to lose mindset like, you know, will we let's be expecting anything and everything from them. They'll throw everything at us. So we're preparing like it's the first test."
The match at FMG Stadium Waikato is sold out, marking the third consecutive test to achieve this feat. After this weekend, the All Blacks will prepare for The Rugby Championship, starting with two tests in Argentina.
