Drugs, Sawn-Off Shotgun and Ammo Found in BMW During 1am Stop in Auckland’s Northcote

A dramatic police operation in Auckland’s Northcote at 1am led to the seizure of a dangerous weapon, drugs, and ammunition from a BMW. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking and illegal firearms.

Police in Auckland conducted a routine stop of a BMW on Ocean View Road just before 1am. The vehicle was pulled over by officers who then performed a search of the car. What they found was alarming: a loaded sawn-off shotgun in the driver’s footwell, along with about 50 rounds of ammunition and several bags of methamphetamine.

Acting Inspector Tim Williams, who led the operation, praised the team for their quick response. “Recovering the drugs and a dangerous weapon, as well as the ammunition, is a great result. Drug use takes a huge toll on our communities and can lead to other offending,” he said.

The 22-year-old driver was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of utensils, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. He is due in the North Shore District Court today to face these charges.

The incident has sparked a renewed call for stricter enforcement of laws surrounding illegal firearms and drug use. Local authorities emphasized that the seizure of such items not only prevents potential harm but also sends a strong message to those involved in criminal activity.

Witnesses reported that the scene was tense but orderly, with officers handling the situation with professionalism. The driver was taken into custody without incident, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

This case underscores the critical role of police in maintaining public safety, especially during late hours when crime rates can sometimes rise. It also highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.

As the case moves forward, it will be closely watched by both the public and legal experts. The outcome could set a precedent for future drug and firearms-related charges in the region.

For now, the people of Northcote can take some comfort in knowing that their local police force is actively working to keep their community safe, even in the dead of night.
