Auckland's Economic Growth Slows, Faces Risk of Falling Behind Peer Cities

A new report reveals that Auckland is experiencing a decline in its economic vitality, raising concerns about its ability to compete with similar cities around the world.

According to a recent report by Deloitte for the Committee for Auckland, the city is lagging behind in several key areas, including housing density and transportation infrastructure. The report compares Auckland with cities such as Vancouver, Portland, Dublin, and Brisbane, highlighting the challenges the city faces in maintaining its global competitiveness.

Mark Thomas, chairman of the Committee for Auckland, told RNZ's morning news program that over the past three years, Auckland's economic growth has declined the most among its peers. He pointed to housing issues as a major contributing factor.
