Kate Gloeggler, a Motueka Valley resident, shared her concerns about the upcoming storm. She had recently adopted a three-month-old puppy named Kahu when the rain began two weeks ago. Fearing for her safety, she evacuated with her new dog and now volunteers with a flood support team, checking in on those affected by the last flood.

"They're quite nervous about more rain coming, because they've just been starting to secure and kind of rebuild the things that got broken, and now there's just more on the radar," Gloeggler said. "It's quite unsettling and nervewracking for the people here." She added that many residents still haven't recovered from the last event, and the ongoing uncertainty is taking a toll on the community.

Kerry Irvine, president of the Nelson Federated Farmers, echoed these concerns. He described the recent flood as one of the worst he had seen in his lifetime, with the impact extending beyond farmers to the wider public. "It is a pretty wide event, this one, and I have to stress any more rain is not welcome," he said.

With the threat of another storm looming, residents are urged to stay alert and prepare for the worst. As one local put it, "Expect the worst and hope for the best." The community is rallying together, but the emotional and physical toll of repeated natural disasters continues to weigh heavily on those who call Nelson Tasman home.
