Fiji's 3x3 Basketball Teams Secure Gold and Qualify for U23 World Cup and Commonwealth Games

Fiji made history at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau by securing gold medals in both the men's and women's 3x3 basketball competitions. This achievement not only earned them the top prize but also guaranteed their qualification for the FIBA 3x3 Under-23 World Cup later this year and the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The women's team, led by captain Moana Liebregts, demonstrated remarkable resilience, defeating Tonga 16-13 in a tightly contested final. Their victory marked a significant milestone for Fijian women's basketball, showcasing the growing strength of the sport in the region.

Following the women's triumph, the men's team delivered a nail-biting finish, edging out the Solomon Islands 19-18 in a thrilling match. The narrow margin highlighted the intense competition and the high stakes involved in the tournament.

FIBA Oceania's executive director, Amanda Jenkins, praised Fiji's performance, emphasizing the importance of the Pacific Mini Games as a direct qualifier for international events.
