Mitre 10 New Zealand CEO Andrea Scown Announces Departure

Andrea Scown, the chief executive of Mitre 10 New Zealand, has announced her decision to step down from her position in December after eight years of leadership. Her departure marks the end of a transformative chapter for the home improvement retailer, which has grown significantly under her stewardship.

Andrew Smith, the chair of Mitre 10, praised Scown’s vision and leadership, stating that her contributions have been instrumental in positioning the company as New Zealand's leading home improvement brand. "With Andrea at the helm, the business has achieved impressive growth in retail and trade and has firmly established Mitre 10 as the market leader," Smith said.

Scown led the company through a number of pivotal challenges and milestones during her tenure, including a multi-year digital transformation, the global supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic, and the execution of a five-year strategic plan. As the digital transformation enters its deployment phase and the company enjoys a strong strategic and financial foundation, Scown has decided it is the right time to step aside and allow a new leader to take the company forward.

Reflecting on her leadership, Scown expressed pride in the high-performing executive team she built and the advancements made in customer experience, supply chain operations, and sustainability. "Together, we have transformed our supply chain, used business data to improve customer experience, expanded the network with new stores and trade distribution centers, and embedded health and safety and sustainability into every aspect of our operations," she said.

Scown also extended her gratitude to the board for their dedication to the co-operative’s members, acknowledging the importance of the members' long-term vision and their deep-rooted connections with the communities in which Mitre 10 operates. She expressed confidence in the company’s future, stating that the platforms for growth in technology, supply chain, and operating models are in place for continued success.

"It’s time for a new leader to build on these foundations and take the co-operative into the future," Scown concluded. Her departure will open the door for a new chapter in Mitre 10’s history, with the company well-positioned to continue its leadership and growth trajectory.
