Kiwi Company Launches Smart Power Saving Panel to Help Households Cut Energy Costs
A New Zealand Start-Up is Revolutionizing Home Energy Management
A New Zealand-based start-up has launched a smart electrical panel designed to help homeowners save hundreds of dollars annually on their power bills. The innovative technology offers real-time insights into energy usage, automation capabilities, and advanced safety features.
Basis, the company behind the panel, claims its product can provide detailed information about how electricity is being used in the home. This includes tracking the cost of running appliances like dishwashers or showers, and identifying electrical faults before they become serious issues.
Danny Purcell, Basis's chief executive and co-founder, explained that the panel measures electricity use 20,000 times per second and translates this data into actionable insights. For example, if a homeowner's lights suddenly switch off after using a toaster, the panel can help identify the cause of the fault.
"In the future, the panel will be able to pinpoint the exact cause of electrical faults," Purcell said. "This will allow electricians to remotely diagnose issues and provide more accurate solutions."
When Purcell installed the panel in his own home, it quickly learned his energy usage patterns and helped him set up a routine to manage his hot water system more efficiently. As a result, he expects to save between $1100 and $1400 per year.
"The key to saving money on electricity isn't always about using less energy," Purcell added. "It's about using it during cheaper periods. Our app helps users find the most cost-effective electricity plans based on their unique usage patterns."
The panel replaces a traditional fuse box and, while it has a higher upfront cost, Purcell believes the long-term savings will make it a worthwhile investment. The company's goal is to make energy management effortless and affordable for everyone.
Upon its launch, the company had already received orders for 7500 panels, indicating strong demand for the product. With rising energy costs and increasing awareness of energy efficiency, the smart panel could become a game-changer for many households.
