Elon Musk Announces the Formation of a New U.S. Political Party
Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual and former close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump, has declared the establishment of a new political party in the United States. The party, named the America Party, aims to disrupt what Musk describes as the country’s entrenched "one-party system."
Musk, who previously served as a key advisor to Trump during the 2024 election and supported the president’s efforts to reduce government spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), has since experienced a significant rift with the administration. This growing discord has now culminated in his decision to launch an independent political movement.
In a post on his social media platform, X, Musk wrote: "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy." He further announced the formation of the America Party, stating, "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom."
Musk cited a poll he conducted on X on July 4, U.S. Independence Day, in which he asked followers, "Do you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system?" The poll received over 1.2 million responses, with a majority favoring the creation of a new political option. Musk emphasized that the results validate the need for a fresh approach to U.S. politics.
The tension between Musk and Trump escalated in recent weeks when Trump pushed for the passage of a sweeping legislative package known as the One Big Beautiful Bill. Musk condemned the bill as a betrayal of fiscal conservatism, calling it an example of "debt slavery." He accused Republican lawmakers of hypocrisy, noting that many campaigned on reducing federal spending but ultimately supported the bill, which is projected to increase the national deficit by $3.4 trillion over the next decade.
Trump responded to Musk’s criticism with a sharp retort, even hinting at potential deportations. "We’ll have to take a look," Trump told reporters when asked if he would consider removing Musk, who became a U.S. citizen in 2002 after being born in South Africa. Musk, however, remains undeterred in his political ambitions.
With the America Party now officially in the works, Musk has positioned himself as a formidable figure in the evolving U.S. political landscape. His move signals a growing discontent among influential voices in both the tech and political spheres, who see the current two-party system as increasingly out of touch with the American public.
As the party takes shape, observers will be watching closely to see if it can gain traction and reshape the political discourse in the United States. For now, Musk’s vision appears to be gaining momentum, backed by the support of millions of followers and an ambitious agenda to restore what he calls the "true spirit of democracy."
